Year 5 have have been learning about animation and started off by making their own thaumatropes. We discussed and experimented with still images and how these can create an illusion when looped together. We talked about the famous photographer Eadweard Muybridge and how he was the man who famously proved a horse can fly! Using his images, children created a series of 16 frames using Powerpoint. Children then looped their slideshow to get the effect that the house was really moving. This was a simple introduction to the understanding of frames for animation and the small changes you need for each frame to make a more realistic and smooth film.
