Megan said that she wanted to find out whether sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks floated or sank in water.
The class got into groups and decided that they would use and adapt Megan's starting point to investigate whether rocks float or sink when they change one variable.
For example one group decided that they wanted to investigate: do rocks float or sink when the colour of the water is changed? Another group asked: do rocks float or sink when the liquid is changed? A different group wanted to investigate: does the size of a rock affect whether the rocks float or sink?
The class worked really hard and planned and conducted their own investigations. The children recorded their observations on their own results tables!
